Since its reappearance in the Tour in 2011 after more than three decades of absence, Bilbao has been the goal and output of stage four times. There have been no time that the race has passed through the territory since then in which the town has not been the scene of start or arrival – or both – of at least one stage.
Cyclists will leave the immediate vicinity of San Mamés at 1:30 p.m. To start, in caravan, the neutralized section.

Between the first and second ascent to the high number of the nursery, the race will cross the finish line and cross the city to go back to the nursery from Galdakao.

The last rise of the stage will be a tracing at the end chosen by the tour. From Sondika, the slope of Pike Bidea (2.3 kilometers to 8.9%) opens up. In its last kilometer, 12% on average, Pogacar could not release Vingegaard at the start of the 2023 tour.
