The seventh match day of the Jupiler Pro League will also be shown next weekend only via the Dazn app. But it may change soon. For example, the negotiations with one of the big telecom players would go well.
When the British sports platform purchased the media rights of the next five season in the Belgian professional football at the end of last calendar year, it was done with the intention of partially passing those rights to the traditional telecom companies. Something that was also the case during the previous media cycle.
But the negotiations between the parties involved were particularly difficult. Allegedly the big telecom players, in particular Telenet, Proximus and VOO/Orange, offered too little. Dazn, in turn, only wanted to sell their total package, including rights for other foreign competitions.

Breakthrough with Proximus in sight
The telco’s did not need that, his will only Belgian football. Consequently, the file was stuck in recent weeks and months. An agreement therefore threatened to last definitively. But in the meantime it was announced that in the past days it was re -negotiated between Dazn and Proximus.
That is now also confirmed at Dazn himself. “I can confirm that there are negotiations again with Proximus, as well as with a few smaller telecom players. Those negotiations have not yet been completed, but evolve in the right direction. On the other hand, the conversations with Telenet and VOO/Orange are silent. Without any approach,” says Coo Jan Mosselmans SUDPRESS.
Waterfall effect at other operators?
In the best case, white smoke will follow against the next day of play. There is therefore a chance that Belgian football will soon be available via only one large telecom operator. Although such a scenario is not very likely. A breakthrough with Proximus is found, the other major players will probably follow soon. They cannot take the risk that their customers will transfer to the competition in large numbers.
For the Demarche at Proximus shifts SUDPRESS Incidentally, two causes forward. First of all, more and more customers would complain and put pressure. In addition, new CEO Stijn Bijnens started working on the telecom player on 1 September. He would all like to reach an agreement, even though he is not actively involved in the negotiations.
