After the success of the first edition in 2024, Local Board Beersel, in collaboration with VZW Sportopia, organized the second edition of the Beersels Championship Pickleball on Saturday 6 September. The event again brought residents together for a recreational tournament in which sportiness and pleasure were central.
Pickleball: a sport on the rise
Pickleball, a mix of tennis, badminton and ping -pong, has grown into a real trend in recent years. The sport quickly found its way in Beersel. The first edition of the championship attracted a lot of enthusiastic participants last year and since then pickleball has been played a lot throughout the year, indoor and outdoor. Also this year the championship confirms that popularity. The event started at 2 pm under a bright sun. About ten duos took on each other in exciting competitions and received a lot of support from their supporters. In the end, Thomas van Belle and Jari Debruyn managed to win the victory.
Recreational tournament with pleasure central
The Beersels PickleBall Championship is not a classic competition, but a recreational tournament where pleasure and meeting are central. Young or old, sporty or beginner: everyone could participate.
“Pickleball is accessible, accessible for all ages and especially very pleasant,” says Sport Elsie de Greef. “We are happy that with this second edition we can respond to the demand of residents who have the taste completely.
“Pickleball is a sport that brings people together,” adds Timme Verschingel, from VZW Sportopia. “It can be learned quickly, but at the same time surprisingly challenging. It was a very successful second edition and looking forward to more.”
Atmospheric afternoon
In addition to the competitions, a pleasant bar provided refreshment and meeting between participants and supporters. It was a sporting afternoon where Beersel again showed that Pickleball is a keeper.
