The badminton season kicked off with a tough outing for the BAM team, facing a challenging series of matches that tested their mettle and resilience. Despite a spirited effort, the team ultimately fell short in several key matchups, highlighting areas for growth as the season progresses.
In the men’s doubles, the BAM duo found themselves outmatched, succumbing in straight sets. The women’s doubles team showed promise, pushing their opponents to a deciding set after winning the second, but ultimately couldn’t secure the victory. The singles matches were a rollercoaster of emotions, with players exchanging leads, but the BAM ultimately couldn’t clinch crucial wins.
A bright spot emerged from young Célia Rigot, who made her debut for team 1 and delivered a commanding performance, winning her match in two sets. This victory put BAM on the scoreboard, but they found themselves trailing 3-1. The newly formed MX1 team, missing a key player, struggled and was quickly defeated in two sets.
Lucas Boilet battled hard in his singles match, dropping the first set but fighting back to take the second. He then engaged in a tense, deciding third set, showcasing his determination. Laura Moine also demonstrated grit, recovering from a mid-match wobble. After a strong start, she lost her second set but rallied to secure her team’s second point.
The final match held significant weight, with the third point crucial for securing defensive bonuses, which coudl prove vital given the tight competition expected in the league. The Lemonnier-Lemonnier pair started strong, mastering the first set and appearing poised to clinch the victory in the second. Though, an experienced SBBC pair staged a dramatic comeback, snatching the final two sets in a nail-biting finish.
The team will need to regroup and refocus for their next home fixture against Rennes. This initial match, while challenging, serves as a valuable learning experience as BAM aims to build momentum and secure more wins throughout the season.
