Alcaraz Wins US Open: Defeats Djokovic in Final

Novak Djokovic cannot stop Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard is too strong for the Serbian record grand slam winner and takes up on Sunday after the title.

New York (dpa)-French Open Champion Carlos Alcaraz won the top star duel with Novak Djokovic and reached the final of the US Open for the second time. The 22-year-old Spaniard won 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 4), 6: 2 in the semifinals.

The tournament winner from 2022 on Sunday plays for the title in New York against the Italian world ranking list of Jannik Sinner or outsider Felix Auger-Aliasseime from Canada. With a victory or with a surprising semi-finals from Sinner, Alcaraz would rise again to number one in the tennis world.

No record title for Djokovic

Djokovic has to give up his hope for the 25th Grand Slam title, with which he would swing up the sole record holder in front of the Australian Margaret Court, for these US Open.

He proved that even when he was 38, he can still keep up with the best in the world. But Alcaraz, still without loss of sets in the entire course of the tournament, was too strong for him and also brought him to physical limits. After a sovereign first set win from Alcaraz, he won the second round in the tie -break. That was the preliminary decision.
