Alcaraz along warring Djokovic to US Open-final

Carlos Alcaraz has reached the final of the US Open at the expense of Novak Djokovic. In a high-level party, it was the 22-year-old Spaniard who turned out to be a class better and fitter than the 38-year-old Serbian: 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Alcaraz is in the final of the US Open for the first time since 2022. At the time, he also won the Grandslam tournament in New York. In the final battle he finds the winner of the game between Jannik Sinner and Félix Auger-Aliassime, who will be played last night.

Alcaraz is the first male tennis player to reach the US Open final without a set of set since Roger Federer in 2015.

Djokovic, who won more grand slam titles than any other male tennis player (24), reached this calendar year on all grand slam tournaments to the semi -finals, but that also meant the end station in all those tournaments.

Alcaraz was rapidly steamed to the semi -finals in New York: he did not lose any set. Yet he was not entirely the pronounced favorite against Djokovic, who had managed to win the last two mutual games in the final of the Olympic Games and in the quarter finals of the Australian Open.

In the first two sets it was therefore an equal battle between the young star and the old master. Both served strongly and returned cleverly. That yielded games without many unnecessary errors or winners.

Exemplary for the first set: Djokovic did not get any breaking point, while he allowed Alcaraz three. The Spaniard used one of them, which meant that the set ended in 6-4.

The Arthur Ashe Stadium was sold out for the party between Alcaraz and Djokovic

In the second set the tennis players managed to break each other more often (Djokovic came for 3-0) and a tiebreak eventually had to make the decision. Djokovic resisted himself and got a few dropshots from Alcaraz back, but the difference in fitness became clearer here.

The fitness ultimately made the decisive in the last set. Djokovic was treated on the neck and let more and more balls run. After the winning point, the Serbian showed himself a worthy loser and congratulated Alcaraz broadly at the net. The Spaniard celebrated its final place by simulating a golf swing with his racket.
