Alkaras, second in the world rankings, and Janik Siner (Italy), ranked number one, will be the third match this year in the final of the four grand finals. In the first set, Alkaras suddenly managed to break the game in the first game, taking the game at 6-2, but in the second set, Sinner managed to get back with 6-3.
Alkaras lost the set for the first time in this tournament, but in the third set he won five games in a row and increased his gear from the start, he overwhelmed him with 6-1, and in the fourth set he broke Sinner’s service in the fifth game to win the championship 6-4.
Alkaras, who stopped Sinner’s Grand Slam hard court streak at 27, praised his rivals, saying, “First of all, what you’re doing this season is incredibly amazing, and you’ve played at a magnificent level in every tournament. I’m looking at you more than my family. It’s great to be able to share everything, the courts, the waiting room.”
Meanwhile, Sinner replied, “We’ve played many big stages and games this season. We’ve put our all into it today and couldn’t do anything more.”
Since opening in 1968, Alkaras has won six Grand Slams, the second youngest, after Bjorn Borg (Sweden). His record against Sinner is 10 wins and 5 losses, and with this victory he will return to number one in the world.
