The first game week of the 2025 NFL season is through and we finally choose the biggest winners and losers of the first match day.
By Mike Stiefelhagen
The first impression is! NFL Week 1 is complete. We choose the five biggest winners and losers of the first match day of the new season.
The choice was not easy. So we had to ignore a few candidates. Such as the brutal performance of Daniel Jones (Indianapolis Colts), since this “only” took place against lifeless Miami Dolphins. Or Baker Mayfield or EMEKA EGBUKA (Tampa Bay Buccaners), who harmonized directly at the Brillant debut.
Travis Hunter (Jacksonville Jaguars) was good in the offense as in the defense, but our list narrowly missed. Sean McVay celebrated a tactically strong victory against the Houston Texans or Jake Tonges (San Francisco 49ers) represented the injured Tight End George Kittle well with a touchdown.
With the losers we do not plunge alone on Russell Wilson (New York Giants) or the disappointing start of the New England Patriots. The Cincinnati Bengals could even have been called the Cleveland Browns despite their success. Here, too, we find larger caliber.
ran Name the biggest winners and losers of NFL Week 1.
Winner: Aaron Rodgers
What tastes better than revenge? After the delicious 34: 32 victory against the ex from New York, Aaron Rodgers found bitter sweet words: “It is nice to remind people of what I can do. I am happy about having defeated everyone who has something to do with the jets”.
After not a single Preseason minute, there was a great doubt whether the 41-year-old was still on it. He has it. With four touchdown passes, 244 Passing Yards and no interception, he shone against his old franchise. Nevertheless, the victory was short. A-Rod set a statement that has to be proven further.
NFL: Irrer one-hand-catch! Lions-rookie is astonished Packers
Winner: Debo Samuel
Here, too, the worries were great. Samuel showed divine behavior at the San Francisco 49ers, caused unrest with public statements and left the franchise. The first pictures of the Washington Commanders newcomer in the preparation increased the worries of fans. He looked out of shape.
But everything nonsense. Samuel was the hoped -for “Swiss pocket knife” in the first game when victory over the New York Giants (21: 6). A run over 19 yards to the touchdown and as a receiver leader with 77 yards he leaves no questions open. Samuel seems to be back and could become the important piece of the offense of the offense of coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
NFL: Patrick Mahomes falls – and still conjures up!
Winner: Robert Saleh
Guess Who’s Back, Back Again. Saleh is again the head of the Niners Defense and that had an immediate impact in the victory over the rival from Seattle. Seahawks Quarterback Sam Darnold did not make any revenge. And no touchdown.
The injury -tied 49ers won 17:13. Despite many failures. Despite weak kickers. Also thanks to the great coaching of the returnee.
Gains: Micah Parsons
From a chaos team to a contender. Parsons did everything right! The Defense Monster got its well-deserved wages and could not be killed by Owner Jerry Jones. In Green Bay, he directly celebrated an immensely important victory over the direct competitor from Detroit. As well as a sack against Jared Goff, who looked like a predator was chasing a gazelle.
Parsons lifts the packers to a new level. And now plays with a better team. And get more money. Everything that is still missing is a 100 % fitness.
NFL storylines from Week 1: Aaron Rodgers mixes the league
Winner: Josh Allen
In recent years, experts, insiders and fans have been debating again and again: Who is the better quarterback? Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson? Both are compatible with MVP, year after year. But with this direct meeting, the answer became clear again: it is all.
In an incredible football game, the Buffalo Bills steal through a heroic last quarter the Baltimore Ravens the butter from the bread (41:40). In the leading role: everyone. As always. When it matters, he’s there. While Jackson shone in three out of four quarters, his team at the end led everyone to victory.
394 Passing Yards to 209 Passing Yards. Both with two Passing touchdowns, but all with two run, Jackson with one.
Maybe Jackson brings the larger skill set, but everyone is a leader. And gains games alone. Jackson has to learn to shine when everything else goes down the stream – like through a bitter fumble from Running Back Derrick Henry. But too late. Everyone took advantage of it. Macher.
Loser: Bryce Young
Ugh.
The followers of Carolina Panthers will probably summarize the start of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Just when you had the feeling that you finally had the step to take the step to the undisputed starting quarterback after an unnecessary and long back and forth. That was miserable.
Young was unsure, inaccurate and unbalanced. Little to nothing worked. A certain Andy Dalton is still sitting behind Young. Please not again. Young has to show quickly that he can mature despite the last name.
Loser: Mike McDaniel
The seat heating of the head coach in Miami could lead to a power failure after overload. My goodness, since when can dolphins drown? That was brutal. Tua Tagovailoa with a non-performance in front of the men, the defense tentative, none of the preceding and all in the mode of a Tyreek Hill: I don’t care.
The body language of the players was terrifying in the 8: 33 disaster against the Indianapolis Colts. No rearing up, no emotion, nothing. And that in Week 1. Yes, there was reports that the mood in the franchise was cracked, but that was a complete broken rubble. You have made Daniel Jones look like Indiana Jones. Or like Prime Tom Brady. We cannot distinguish the Colts / Jones too much, since every team would have won against this Miami.
McDaniel is not the main culprit, but the team can no longer get packed with the high expectations. That can end quickly. The dolphins are currently not mammals, they are really fish.
Loser: New York Giants
The Russell-Wilson-Hate is real. Yes, he looked like Rusty Wilson.
Older. More immobile. Not so dynamic. The Giants-QB did not play a good game against the good Commanders Defense. But he wasn’t the main problem. This is deeper with the Preseason master. Because even if Head Coach Brian Daboll unnecessarily left open in the press round after the game which QB will start in Week 2, Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart could have been on the field together and would not have torn anything except their own muscles.
A look at the box score reveals more. Because Wilson was also the team’s best runner. With 44 yards in eight carries. What does that tell us when the highly acclaimed RBS Tyrone Tracy Jr., Devin Singletary and Cam Skattebo (-3 Yards) do not perform? Correct. The offensive line was – again – not worthy of NFL. It’s nice that the Giants on QB, WR and defense in the draft have recently picked well, but if every ball carrier has no time, it is of no use.
A quick increase in performance is needed. Otherwise, the great Giants comeback plan is faster than the pure hate against Wilson when darts and Winston heals the same fate as soon as they are behind this revolving door.
Loser: Dan Campbell
Yes. You can lose against the Green Bay Packers. But the Detroit Lions didn’t have a chance. The Head Coach Campbell team was in many Power Rankings in the top 5 or 10 of the NFL before the season. Now probably not anymore.
Many worried about the franchise before the first game, which has experienced a positive trend in recent years. The scaffolding wobbles. If not. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson became Head Coach at the Chicago Bears, Aaron Glenn at the New York Jets. How much was it dependent on them and how much on Campbell? The unrealive game against the packers suggests: some. Even if both coaches have narrowly lost their games with the new teams.
The comeback from superstar Aidan Hutchinson also fizzled out. The otherwise courageous and aggressive Campbell irritated to the opponent with exaggerated praise before the Packers game: “The dear God created the Lambeau Field on the eighth day”.
Yeah. It was a paradise too. But not for lions. Knee slices have to be bitten again, otherwise the time of the predator is over again.
Loser: Bo nothing
That was (inserted here). The Denver Broncos won against the weakest team in the previous year, even though they felt felt without a quarterback. The defense was directed with six sacks against Tennessee Titans-Qb Cam Ward.
20:12 The final score. Head Coach Sean Payton got away with a blue eye in front of a home backdrop. Nothing threw 176 yards for meager. In addition to a TD, he threw two hair -raising interceptions. And had a fumble.
Hopefully just a hiccup after a fantastic rookie season. Because the Broncos schedule has it all. If the playoffs are supposed to succeed again and this time, nothing has to become a lot.
