The Riyadh Air Metropolitano has been appointed, in the UEFA Executive Committee held in Tirana today, to host the decisive game of the Champions League in its 2026/27 edition, taking the witness of the Puskás Aréna de Budapest.
Ten years after its inauguration in September 2017, the stadium will be the center of all the international football eyes. With this second final of the maximum European competition in less than a decade, the Metropolitan is consolidated at the level of other iconic stages such as the new Wembley, the Stade of France or the Allianz Arena.
After the brilliant final of 2019, which faced Liverpool and Tottenham with Victoria ‘Red’, the stadium has once again overcome the highest quality standards required. This designation reflects the consolidation of Atlético de Madrid as a world reference institution, capable of hosting the most demanding events.
Throughout these ten years, the Metropolitan has become a reference of modernity and technology, attracting not only international football matches, but also concerts of global stars such as Bad Bunny, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Ed Sheeran or The Weeknd.
A stadium and an environment in constant evolution
Since its inauguration, the Metropolitan has been a living project that adapts and improves continuously, staying at the forefront of technology and the experience of the fan. Located in the northeast cornice of Madrid, the stadium is included in the new development of the city of sport, an innovative project of the rojiblanco club that will complete the transformation of the environment into a space with more than 265,000 square meters dedicated to leisure, entertainment and sport.
The stadium has a capacity of 70,692 spectators, which are offered maximum comfort and visibility. In addition to being the first 100 % LED stadium in the world, its recent improvements include the installation of a ‘Sky Ribbon’ almost five meters high and 400 meters perimeter, a 360º screen that transforms the visual experience or the new LED panels that give life to the costume tunnel.
These renovations reinforce the vision of the rojiblanco club to offer an environment of excellence. The incorporation of spaces such as the ‘Tunnel Club’ or the modernization of VIP areas, as well as cylindrical LED screens on the facade, are testimony of Atlético de Madrid for offering an unparalleled experience to their fans.
