Quick Belgian football on TV again? Telenet and Proximus come with news

The negotiations between Dazn and the large Belgian telecom operators remain stuck. No Telenet, no Proximus, no Orange: Belgian football remains exclusively on the Dazn app for the time being. And now a moment is approaching when thousands of viewers will have to confess color.

Door KS

Many football fans opted for a pragmatic interim solution at the start of the season: a monthly subscription at Dazn for 34.99 euros, and retain their existing sports package with their cable provider. For example, all sport remained available, in the hope that an agreement would soon reach.

But that first month will end soon. Then the inevitable question follows: choosing DAZN and the Belgian football, or staying with the operator without Jupiler Pro League? Both camps fear that this will be the moment when subscribers will fall away en masse.

Impasse remains stubborn

According to Dazn, water was already added to the wine. Their last proposal, with lower rates than in the beginning, would, according to them, take “significant steps” towards the operators. But Telenet and Proximus still find it insufficient. They point out that Dazn received a discount of 8% when purchasing the rights, but that it is not passed on proportionally.

A division of the package-only offering the Jupiler Pro League-would be a solution for the operators, but Dazn sticks to the full ‘Dazn Total’ offer. In addition to the Belgian competitions, there is also international football, NBA, NFL and combat sports.

Pressure on both sides

The operators see customers who may never come back. Dazn, in turn, needs the millions of those telco’s to earn back his investment of around 90 million euros per year. Without that extra money it has to lean completely on individual subscriptions, and that is too skinny according to insiders.

Analyzing the DAZN and Belgian Telecom Impasse: Key Data & Comparisons

To further illuminate the ongoing struggle between DAZN and Belgian telecom operators, we present the following data-driven analysis:

| feature | DAZNS Position | Telecom Operators’ Position (Telenet, Proximus, Orange) | Key Issue/sticking Point | Potential Impact |

| ———————— | ———————————————— | ——————————————————– | ———————————————————— | ———————————————————— |

| Content Offering | DAZN Total: Jupiler Pro League, International Football, NBA, NFL, Combat sports | Primarily Existing Sports Packages, Jupiler Pro League not included | Package vs. Partial Offering | Subscriber Retention/Churn, Content Accessibility |

| Pricing | €34.99/month (initial offer) and Lower rates. | Seeking lower wholesale rates & option to unbundle. | Disagreement on Cost and Revenue Sharing | Subscription Costs for Consumers, Profit Margins for Both sides|

| Negotiating Leverage | Needs Telecom Operator partnerships for broader reach+90 million euro investment return. | Need Football to attract viewers, but have existing sports packages | Financial dependency & the power of a loyal customer base | Subscriber Loss or Gains, Streaming Platform Viability |

| Contractual Details |Discount. | DAZN’s Rights purchase Discount | DAZN not passing on 8% discount proportionally | Impact on consumer prices and overall price clarity |

Note: All figures are approximate and represent the situation as of August 17, 2025.

expert Commentary: The key takeaway from this data is the fundamental disagreement over the value proposition. DAZN wants to maintain the full package, while the telecom operators seek a more tailored and possibly cheaper offering. This conflict stems from DAZN’s high investment and the operators’ need to balance content costs,
