Sofia/Bulgaria. The Leondinger young Judoka Selina Wögerer has reached 7th place at the U18 World Championship in Sofia with an impressive performance and thus set a strong international exclamation mark. For the only 16-year-old athlete of the ASKÖ Fairdrive Leonding, it is the highlight of her career after the European Youth Games and the European Championships this summer.
The world’s best 34 judoka met at this World Cup in Selina’s weight class. The Leondinger was the only Austrian qualified for this World Cup. She was able to prevail against opponents from Kyrgyzstan and Serbia. Selina Wögerer finally had to give up against the French woman who was set as No. 1 and in the hope of an athlete from Japan. As an athlete of the younger year, Selina has not only gained valuable experience, but also demonstrated her enormous potential.
The next destinations have already been set: in 2026 the European Championships and World Championships are again on the program – with legitimate hopes for precious metal. Selina Wögerer’s path shows that with discipline, passion and a strong environment, international success is tangible.
