Jeremy Linone of the players most remembered for their media explosion with the New York Knicks and his stage in Los Angeles Lakers, He confirmed this Saturday that he officially retires from professional basketball. The announcement did it through an Instagram publication, where he expressed the difficulty of closing a chapter that marked much of his life.
“As athletes, we are always aware that the possibility of retirement is never far,” wrote the exbase. “I have spent my 15 years of career knowing that one day I would have to get away, and even so say goodbye to basketball today has been the most difficult decision I have taken in my life”.
Lin played nine seasons in the NBAbetween 2010 and 2019, but its name was especially recorded in the memory of Knicks fans during the 2011-12 season.
His career began discreetly: he debuted with the Golden State Warriors In 2010 as an un recruited free agent and played 29 games in his first year. Shortly after, in December 2011, New York added it to its template after a magnet shumpert injury.
The phenomenon that captivated Madison Square Garden
The movement changed the course of its trajectory. Just 25 games after starting the calendar, Lin got its first ownership and surprised the entire league. In his first 10 matches as a starter he averaged 23.8 points and 9.4 assists, a level that unleashed what was soon known as “Linsanity.” Madison Square Garden vibrated every night and Lin went from being an unknown player to one of the most commented figures in the sports world.
That year he closed it with outstanding numbers: 18.2 points and 7.7 assists per game, with 44.5 % effectiveness in field shots. His irruption not only represented a sporting hope for the Knicks, but also a cultural phenomenon that inspired millions of fans, especially in the Asian-American community.
He subsequently signed with the Houston Rockets, although he could not repeat the magic of New York. Throughout his career he also went through Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks y finalmente Toronto Raptorsteam with which he won a championship in 2019, although his role was limited.
After leaving the NBA, he continued playing in international leagues, and his last appearance was with the New Taipei Kings of the Taiwan Professional League.
With 37 years, Jeremy Lin says goodbye to the courts leaving a mark that goes beyond statistics. Its history will be associated with one of the most vibrant chapters of the modern NBA and to the indelible memory of the “Linsanity.”
