Zaragoza hosts this weekend, from July 4 to 6, the Spanish Basketball Championship in Sub22 wheelchair. A maximum level event that will gather a hundred athletes and technicians from Aragon, Murcia, Cataluña, Madrid, Valencia, Vitoria and Tenerife.
It is organized by the Adapta Zaragoza Sports Club, together with the Spanish Sports Federation of People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF). It will take place at the CN Helios facilities, as part of the commemorative activities of the centenary of this club and its commitment to adapted sport.
The tournament has been presented this Thursday 3 at a press conference at the City of Zaragoza, with the assistance of the Director of Sports of the Government of Aragon, Cristina García; the delegate councilor of Sports, Félix Brocate; the president of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), Enrique Álvarez; the president of the CD adapts Zaragoza, María Luisa García; the president of CN Helios, José María Esteban Celorrio; the director of the Zaragoza business area Centro de Caixabank, Isabel Baquedano; and the adapt player Zaragoza Álex Larrosa.
In this act, the general director of Sports, Cristina García, highlighted the work of CN Helios, her willingness to host this test and her “commitment to the city and the community.” He also thanked the Spanish Federation “to have confident Zaragoza and Aragon for this event” and invited the Aragonese to enjoy this weekend “good basketball and sport.”
The reception of this Spanish Championship is part of the commitment of the Government of Aragon and the City of Zaragoza for the attraction of national and international sporting events, which generate very positive impacts for the city in economic, social, tourist and media terms. This is one of the lines of work that have led Zaragoza to obtain the European Sports Capital Seal 2027.
The meeting will bring together the main exponents of wheelchair basketball schools to play a tournament that, on its tour since 2010, has had players from the male and female absolute selections, as well as almost all athletes of the Sub22 and Sub25 teams.
The first games will take place today Friday, July 4 in the afternoon, at 5:00 p.m. already at 7:00 p.m. The day of Saturday 5 will be in the morning and afternoon, with a total of six games, while on Sunday 6 in the morning the last three games will be played, including the grand final (12:30 hours). The event will culminate at 2:00 p.m. with the closing ceremony and awards ceremony.
