European Championship: Summary Spain – Portugal

Spain has started convincingly at the European Championship. The title favorite in Bern had no trouble with Portugal: 5-0. In the same group B, Italy previously won 1-0 against Belgium.

Stand Group B

With a 7-1 defeat against Spain in April in the Nations League still fresh in the memory, it was fearing that Portugal feared a new punishment. Already after 88 seconds it went wrong.

Lightning start Spain

Esther González took a long ball nicely with the shoulder and tapped the ball past the doubting keeper Ines Pereira. Five minutes later, Vicky López slipped into the ball after a pass from Mariona Caldentey.

Spain then continued to create opportunities and Portugal had nothing to say. Sparing attacks via the lonely Jessica Silva striker ran out.

Two goals in two minutes

Nevertheless, Portugal limited the damage for some time, but just before half -time two goals fell in a short period of time. Captain Alèxia Putellas cut Diana Gomes and scored after a great assumption.

Two minutes after that goal in the 41st minute, Esther González made it 4-0 up close. The striker tapped in, after a wonderful bet by Claudia Pina had landed against the distant pole.

Within two minutes, Spain scores two goals against Portugal

After the break, Spain took gas back and was not a sample score. National coach Montserrat Tome awarded Salma Paralluelo as a substitute playing time and in the final phase Aitana Bonmatí also came in.

Bolmatí was felled last week by a viral meningitis, but has been restored. With a beautiful pass, the Golden Bal winner from 2023 and 2024 showed a glimpse of her class.

The fifth goal fell in injury time. Cristina Martin-Prieto, player of Benfica, Portuguese, headed in after a nice pass from Paralluelo.
