In sociology there is a concept known as “glass precipice”, which means that women are more likely to take responsibility in crisis situations. There is no doubt that the PSOE is today in a deep crisis after its last two organizational secretaries, José Luis Ábalos and Santos Cerdán, are investigated for corruption and that the second is currently in temporary prison. To turn a sheet to this situation, Pedro Sánchez has chosen to appoint a woman for the post, Rebeca Torró, and to increase the presence of women in the decision nucleus of the PSOE in Ferraz.
Thus, Nougat number two will also be a woman, Anabel Mateo. In the same way, the Catalan Montse Mínguez, who will be the new spokesman, will also have a spokeswoman Dona, Enma López. The operation is so explicit that Pedro Sánchez met with the main party leaders on Friday to emphasize a feminist twist that includes the reform of party statutes to immediately expel militants who consume prostitution services.
This feminization of the PSOE is the letter that Sánchez will play this Saturday in front of the Federal Committee of the PSOE that must validate the proposal. But it is not enough. Feminization must be accompanied by a change of political culture that, for example, that an organization secretary cannot occupy the ministry that distributes the most resources, such as transport. This is what happened to José Luis Ábalos and, in Zapatero’s time, with José Blanco. The party is the party, and the Government, the government, and when one thing is confused with the other, it is when problems begin.
Feminization must be accompanied by a change of political culture
With regard to the appointment of Montse Mínguez, there is a danger to the detriment of the Autonomy of the PSC, although nougat is also revealed that the Catalan -speaking territories, that is, the Mediterranean and especially abused by centralism on topics such as funding, are those with the most sanchist socialist bases.
At the same time that Sánchez met with women from the PSOE in La Moncloa, in another part of Madrid the PP kicked off its congress. On the PP the itinerary has been the opposite. With the change of Cuca Gamarra by Miguel Tellado Feijóo he has masculinized the party, hardened and radicalized it. However, the testosterone exhibition of the day corresponded to José María Aznar, who boycotted Feijóo’s intention to have a calm and moderate congress with a furious and hatred speech against the socialists. Aznar suggested that the place that corresponds to Pedro Sánchez is prison, a speech more similar to that of Vox than that of the PP itself. Mariano Rajoy’s rear tone was something else.
In any case, Aznar’s intervention was a reminder for Feijóo, who, if he reaches the Moncloa, will have the hard wing of the party, the one who would welcome a government with Vox with good eyes, watching over him.
