Thalheim. It has been two years since Sabrina Filzmoser had to stop climbing the K2 due to the weather. Now the 45-year-old Thalheimer wants to know again. Again she started in Karachi at sea level and cycled through Pakistan to the second highest mountain in the world, where she is now in the base camp.
The extreme athlete and former world-class judoka from Wels-Land not only have the summit of the most rising mountain in the eye, but also another mission: as a climate enamor, she would like to point out the climatic conditions and changes in this region of the world. And as always with her expeditions, the police officer is also on the road for “Judo for Peace”.
Filzmoser has already reached many hot hours on the bike and finally reached the Broad Peak Base Camp at 4,820 meters on foot. With their ascents in Camp 1 and Camp 2, the effects of climate change become clearly visible to the triple Olympic participant: “The glacier is in a miserable condition. This is very sad,” writes Filzmoser on Instagram.
Filzmoseres schedule, as always with such expeditions, is based on the weather to minimize the risk on this difficult route. It has a top -rare Broad Peak Camp 2 at 6,150 meters.
