“I see a huge drive with everyone who has a warm heart for the club”: the Beerschot from Mo Messoudi resumes training sessions
The 27-year-old goalkeeper Jens Teunckens is on trial at Beerschot this week. His contract with Lierse ended this summer, making him free to look elsewhere for playing minutes after a tumultuous season at the Lisp.
“I feel like the garbage,” it still sounded at Teunckens in December 2024. The goalkeeper was suddenly pushed aside at Lierse on the last day of the Summer Mercato. For example, there was no more room in the core for the Gelenaar and he had to keep his condition with the promises. “The way I was treated was not correct and hurts me because Lierse is known as a respectful family club,” said Teunckens in an earlier interview.

Teunckens is this week, together with Edisson Jordanov (former Westerlo), one of the testers during the first ministage among the new coach Mo Messoudi. Whether both parties will eventually work with each other will continue to wait for the time being. After the departure of Davor Matijas last week, an extra goalkeeper in the competition is not a superfluous luxury for the Mannekes. In June, Teunckens also trained as a tester at the Lokeren-Temse of Coach Stijn Vreven.

Until Friday, the Messoudi troops are completing their ministage further, on Saturday the first exhibition match against the Sporting Hasselt of Frédéric Frans on the menu. From then on, the training sessions will also continue at the University Square in Wilrijk. In the past season, the players could not use their base enough due to different problems. For example, the fields were often not playable and after a renovation there were problems with the drainage of the training grounds. These problems are now all off the job. “The fields are all good, so that will no longer cause resentment this season,” said coach Mo Messoudi.
Heat wave
After the heat wave, many Belgian clubs have already taken measures to counter the heat. For example, various exhibition games were postponed to a later starting hour and training sessions were brought forward. Beerschot is now also taking measures. On Wednesday, the training – as most likely at many other clubs – will start earlier to avoid the heat.

The practice match against Sporting Hasselt would not be compromised on Saturday due to the summer temperatures. By then, after all, the mercury drops in Belgium and so the game is only planned at 6 pm in the Stedelijk Sportstadion. A day later, on June 6, Beerschot is already practicing again at 6 pm in Burgh-Haamstede against the Greek AEK Athens. As a result, there will be two times 45 minutes in Hasselt and not twice 60 minutes as the club previously communicated.
E Disposing contract Sanusi
There are of course also the sloping contracts of some boys who have not yet been extended, such as Ryan Sanusi’s. The captain and icon of the club sees his commitment end this summer, although there seems to be a good chance that the 33-year-old midfielder will continue to bind to the club. “Captain Ryan Sanusi is currently still in the negotiating phase about a new contract. Pending a possible agreement, he will already start with the preparation,” said in a communication by Beerschot.

And whether there are new acquisitions on the Kiel? That is still waiting for that. Coach Messoudi indicated earlier that he wants to have as many players as possible minutes in the preparation, in order to weigh and weigh his core.
