Jelle Bataille (26) is no longer a player of Royal Antwerp FC. The Belgian right back would normally be under contract with the Great Oldsince we were told that the option was lifted in his expiring commitment just before the usual deadline of 31 March, but a problem has surfaced in that file. The agreement between Antwerp and Bataille stated that the option had to be lifted at the end of February, so we hear in the player’s camp, and the club had left that.
Bataille just showed up at the beginning of last week for the first training, but then the problem came up at the football association and Antwerp. Since they still wanted to go through with Bataille at RAFC, new conversations were tied with him to rectify the crooked situation, but they have not brought a solution. Bataille still wanted to stay, but rather for several years, which turned out not to be possible in the current circumstances.
Bataille said goodbye to the group on Thursday. Since his contract had already ended a few days ago, he was no longer insured and so he informed trainer Stef Wils about his departure. So he no longer participated in the friendly match against Beveren. He is now a free player and free to pick up, but of course he did not want to say goodbye to the Bosuil, after four years and 154 games.
Response Antwerp
It is of course also annoying for Antwerp. Earlier it also separated in mutual consultation with Denis Odoi (37), who was tired of the distant movements, among other things. The remaining right backs are youngsters Kobe Corbanie (20) and Semm Renders (17). Through a statement, the club says that it ultimately decided to stop the negotiations with Bataille.
“Our intention was to continue a year longer, on the stated option conditions,” it sounds. “The player also made that intention known. In the meantime, however, it appears that Jelle and his entourage want to dispute the validity of the option to be able to sit down at the table again.
