European Championship: Summary Belgium – Italy
Italy started the European Championship with a 1-0 win over Belgium in a sunny Sion. Arianna Caruso became a matchwinner just before half -time in the little spectacular encounter.
Spain and Portugal play the second game in group B from 9 p.m. in Bern. The Spanish women are a favorite to win the tournament as reigning world champions and current number two of the FIFA ranking.
Caruso gets space
Italy struck against Belgium in the 44th minute. Bayern Munich player Caruso was given plenty of room from Amber Tysia to play free and she shot hard and high inside.

Tessa Wullaert
After the break, Italy had few problems to hold the lead.
The Belgian top striker Tessa Wullaert, playing for the Italian Internazionale, could do little. In the first half, the former player of Fortuna Sittard had been dangerous a few times.
Best chance Italy
The best chance was in the final phase for Italy. After a pass by Caruso, substitute Michela Cambiaghi with the left, however. Just before the end of the regular playing time time, Lisa Lichtfus also stopped a deployment of Cambiaghi.
Due to time racks from the Italians, nine minutes of injury time were added, but there was no more goals in it.
