Iceland went into the first game of the European Championship as a favorite. But the outsiders from Finland won.

The women of women have their first surprise – and that in the first game. Because Finland has conquered the favorites from Iceland in Group A. The Underdog prevailed 1-0, also benefited from a yellow-red card for Icelandic Hildur Antonsdóttir in the 58th minute. Twelve minutes later it was Katarina Kosola who scored the game’s goal and put the Finnish fans in ecstasy.

At temperatures of around 30 degrees, both teams had a hard time in the first round, goal opportunities remained in short supply. At the break, the Icelanders lost Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir, the captain of the German Double winner Bayern Munich had to stay injured in the cabin.

After the yellow-red card for Antontondóttir because of repeated foul game, the Finns acted in the majority, Kosola scored the winning goal from the distance.

After the first encounter of the tournament, the official opening game rises in the evening (9 p.m.). Host Switzerland meets in Basel on Norway. The German team starts on Friday (9 p.m./each in the live ticker at T-Online) in St. Gallen against Poland.
