A global tournament with 32 club teams starts for the first time in summer with the 2025 club world championship. Now the FIFA has announced details on prize money distribution – and sets new standards.
Overall, the World Football Association FIFA releases one billion US dollars (around 926 million euros) in prize money. As can be seen from an official message, the sum is divided into two main categories: participation and performance bonuses.
Participation remuneration according to continent
The larger part of the distribution-525 million US dollars-is paid out as an entry fee regardless of performance. The twelve European participants, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, receive between $ 12.81 and $ 38.19 million. According to FIFA, the staggering takes place according to sporty and commercial criteria. Clubs from South America each receive $ 15.21 million, those from Africa, Asia and North and Central America each. The only participant from Oceania (AS Pirae, Tahiti) receives $ 3.58 million.
Performance premiums: millions for each game
The remaining $ 475 million are linked to sporting performance during the tournament. A victory in the group phase brings two million dollars, a draw one million. The premiums rise to achieve the KO phases: round of 16 (7.5 million), quarter-finals (13,125 million), semi-finals (21 million), final (30 million). The tournament winner receives an additional $ 40 million – a club can win a maximum of $ 125.815 million.
FIFA announces solidarity model
FIFA President Gianni Infantino referred to the prize money model as “nonplusultra in club football” and emphasized: “It is the highest prize money that was ever released for a football tournament with a seven-game group and k.-o. phase.” In addition, FIFA announced a global solidarity model: $ 250 million should flow in the global club football. So far, the association has not given details of this distribution.
No funds for FIFA – revenue remain in club football
According to FIFA, all revenue from the tournament flow into club football. The FIFA reserves should remain untouched and continue to benefit the 211 member associations.
