Boston Celtics: Worst NBA Free Agent Signing?

Tanner hockey striker Jeannot continues to surprise. Although he has only one offensive season in the NHL in the CV, managers are fighting for him. The last example is a contract from the head of the Boston team of Don Sweeney.

This year’s opening in the overseas NHL did not offer a stunning show, unlike other years.

The biggest stars disappeared from the list of available players before 1 July. Either they extended the contract in the current location, or as Mitch Marner, they have signed an exchanging exchange.

But that the hunting of free hockey players would do without interest, no. Even this time several contracts were amazed by disproportionate lucrativeness.

Perhaps the best example is the 28 -year -old Jeannot, defensively capable and extremely hard wing, which, however, offensively flashed only in the regular season 2021/22, when Nashville reached 41 points, of which 24 goals. Otherwise, he never scored more than seven goals in the NHL.

In the last two years, divided between Tampa and Los Angeles, he has occupied $ 2.67 million under the salary ceiling.

However, since he could not even partially build on his life season, the statistical models calculated its current value to 0.8 to 1.5 million per year.

Reality? Boston gave Jeannot 3.4 million for five years! Overall, it collects $ 17 million.

“To pay him the next five years money at the level of players in the third line is absolutely untenable,” wrote Luszczyszyn from the online newspaper The Athletic. He described the amount of the contract as shocking.

A similar opinion was published by journalist’s colleague Sean Gentille, who rated Sweeney’s catch with a sign of D-.

“Graz 3.4 million would be unreasonable as a short -term bet. But as a long -term investment? Well, do you please. Jeannot brings some defensive value and likes destroying opponents, but that is enough not to get F,” Gentille said.

Of course, Sweeney defended his controversial investment.

“He flew up a few years ago,” he launched Jeannot. “Since then, he has gone through some injuries that have derailed him a little. I do not know if he will score 24 goals again, of course I hope so. He in his soul believes that it will bring much more energy to our party.

Sweeney is not the first official that Jeannot has enchanted. When the Canadian wingman joined Nashville, Julien Brisebis, general manager of Tampa, looked for him.

In the spring of 2023 he brought him in exchange, which some considered a press mistake. Tampa sacrificed young defender Cal Foote, the son of the famous Adam Foote, and above all the unbelievable five draft selections, including that in the first round.

Even then Jeannot did not play as in his life season. In the club eventually lasted only a year and a half.

If we do not count the three -year -old newcomer contract, Sweeney is the first manager to have Jeannota for more than two years.
