Zapopan, Jalisco.- The Bádminton selection of Baja California culminated on Monday its participation in the first stage of the National Olympiad Conade 2025, conquering the bronze medal in the modality of Mixed Doubles Category Category U15, thanks to the effort of Marisela Fonseca Castellanos and Edgar Urias Bautista.
During the semifinals carried out in the Code II gym of Zapopan, the BajaCalifornian duo offered an performance full of delivery and courage against Jalisco, which ended up taking the victory in two sets after 25 minutes of intense rallies, and then crowned champions of the event. Despite the result, Marisela was motivated by her performance: “Although the expected results were not given, I felt very excited. I think I could have given a little more, but I will continue to strive for the next year.”
For his part, Edgar said he was satisfied with the medal: “I am happy, although I would have liked to reach the final. It was the first time we played together and I feel that we did very well, we had good communication. We lacked little to close with gold.”
Marisela and Edgar’s performance represents the reflection of the commitment and discipline with those who train every day, demonstrating that the constant work and support of their coaches bear fruit in national stages. Both athletes showed determination and temper to face the strongest rivals in the country, confirming their place among the best in its category.
The coach Jonathan Morales stressed that this first stage was a valuable opportunity to detect the level of the new sports talents of Baja California, although he acknowledged that the goal was to reach the finals. “It was not achieved, but the experience for these players was important. They leave with a good lesson and we are going to polish details so that next year we return better prepared and obtain a different result.”
