Already on July 5 and 6, Lake Aluksne will turn into a powerful speedboat sport epicenter, as there will be both the European Championship Formula 4 and international competitions with a record number of participants. During the competition, another water transport movement will be closed in Lake Aluksne, but the audience is welcome to watch the race free of charge, both from Temple Lakalns and Aluksne Manor Park to see the athlete’s battle for every second in changing water conditions.
Pilot Niklāvs Rimeicans revealed on TV3’s “900 Seconds” that the speedboat race is unique in that the track changes with each circle, with the wind and waves significantly affecting speed and stability, unlike the highway race on the asphalt. The Formula 4 speedboats reach very high speeds, and the pilots are tasked with learning to “fly” on the water, maintaining control even in dangerous situations. Rimeican admits that this sport attracts adrenaline and challenges, and his goal in the first full F4 season is to get to at least the top ten.
Interestingly, from 21 registered participants to start in Aluksne, there will be only 18 best, so there will be a strenuous fight in the qualification, which will be viewed from the first day of the race. According to Slakteris, high athletic levels are expected in Aluksne, as Latvia is currently proud of six Formula 4 speedboats, and athletes from several countries want to fight directly in Aluksne thanks to the high quality of the competition and the good organization.
