Spanish League One chairman Tebas said in an interview locally on Monday (June 23), the club World Cup that he recently played in ruins the football ecology and is not good for La Liga clubs and players.
Tebas has been the chairman of the La Liga since 2013. Before coming to Singapore to participate in the second La Liga Extratime Industry Forum, he accepted interviews from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and local media. When answering a question from Lianhe Zaobao, he emphasized that the recent Club World Cup in full swing will do more harm than good for La Liga.
Tebass: Club World Cup affects the normal schedule of major leagues and players feel more tired
Tybas said that the Club World Cup arrangements have disrupted the normal schedules of major leagues and posed a potential threat to the players’ physical health. He said: “We have to consider that the players participating in the game will definitely feel more tired from this game. When you talk about professional football in Europe, you have tens of thousands of professional players, and these players will be affected.
“Because such a schedule is too tight for everyone.”
In addition, Tebas also pointed out that due to the existence of the Club World Cup, major leagues have to adjust their schedules to cooperate with the game. This adjustment has an impact on the audio and video broadcasting rights and commercial interests of leagues in various countries, destroying the original football ecosystem. He called on FIFA to consider the interests of major leagues more when setting the game schedule to maintain the healthy development of global football.

When asked whether the La Liga giant Real Madrid will change their minds about the Club World Cup if they win the championship, Tebas’ attitude is still firm. He believes that even if La Liga performs well in the Club World Cup and even wins the championship, it still cannot make up for its negative impact.
He said: “If this game itself doesn’t make a positive sense, I don’t care who will win the game. For Real Madrid, it will be positive. But as chairman, my duty is to focus on the overall situation of all clubs. I will be happy for Real Madrid, but the Club World Cup is still negative for La Liga.”
La Liga team’s decision to visit new players is in the club
The last time a La Liga club came to Singapore for a friendly match was the 2018 sports Madrid. Regarding whether La Liga clubs will visit the Lions again in the near future, Tebas revealed that the decision is not in the hands of the league.
“It’s actually the club’s decision. There are a lot of (friendly) requests, but as mentioned before, every country wants to get a portion, so there are few opportunities.”
When asked whether he could give Li Xiaodong, the new president of the Singapore Football Association, recently elected, Tebas believed that the top priority was to establish a solid competitive platform so that football talents could emerge and help local football develop.
