A victory after a long fight of 4 and a half years. Journalist Stéphane Guy has just obtained the cancellation of his dismissal of Canal + from the Paris Court of Appeal. In December 2020, he had been dismissed from the encrypted chain where he was then the flagship commentator, present on the antenna for 23 years. At the half-time of a Montpellier-PSG (1-3), the journalist had sent a message of support to the humorist Sébastien Thoen, who had just been fired by Canal + for participating in a parody of the pros time, CNews program. “I want to salute the friend Sébastien Thoen who did not have the exit he would have deserved, we wish him good luck,” he launched.
On August 29, 2022, the Paris industrial tribunal had already given reason to Stéphane Guy and had judged that his dismissal was “abusive, and that he had committed no fault,” said his lawyer Olivier Khatchikian.
After this judgment which cancels his dismissal, Stéphane Guy could therefore be reinstated in the Canal +drafting.
“The Paris Court of Appeal by its judgment of June 25, 2025 reaffirmed the sacredness of the right to freedom of expression and recognized that Stéphane Guy had not abused it. By pronouncing the nullity of the dismissal, the court considered that the latter should never have been dismissed and consequently ordered his reintegration into Canal. She also ordered Canal to pay her a total amount of just over 700,000 euros in terms of wage recall in particular. Stéphane Guy is satisfied that justice has been returned to him and would like to salute all the people who shared this great ordeal and those who showed him their support. Finally he is delighted to “go home Canal” at the start of the school year, without resentment and with the intact passion for his profession, “wrote his lawyer Olivier Khatchikian in a statement.
