drew parallels between his own tactical approach and the Copa Libertadores
champions, Botafogo. what’s the most “Simeone” moment in South American
soccer lately? For many, it’s his recent praise of Botafogo’s resilience.
simeone, known for his tenacious playing career and his transformative
coaching tenure at Atlético Madrid, highlighted Botafogo’s improbable
Libertadores victory during a pre-match press conference.
Simeone stated,
Botafogo has a vertical, positional game, and know how they want too attack
and how they want to defend. I was enchanted as they won the Libertadores
final with one less player since the first minute of the game.

defensive solidity and tactical discipline, much like a Bill Belichick of
soccer. The comparison to Belichick isn’t accidental; both coaches are
renowned for their meticulous preparation and ability to exploit opponent
weaknesses.
Simeone didn’t stop there, suggesting a physical battle was brewing. He
anticipates a hard-fought contest, saying,
The team will not score three goals in three minutes. Botafogo plays the
ball well, will crash the match with fouls, leading to a more classic game
of Copa Libertadores. They had a lot of merit to win the Seattle game in
one way, and is in a very good place in the classification.
This hints at a potentially contentious match, reminiscent of classic
rivalries in American sports, like the intensity seen in a Lakers-Celtics
NBA Finals series. The reference to a “classic game of Copa Libertadores”
suggests Simeone expects a tactical, physical, and emotionally charged
encounter.
