OL Demotion: DNCG Ruling & Club’s Response

OL reacted this Tuesday evening to the DNCG’s decision to sanction it from an administrative demotion in Ligue 2.. The Rhone club denounces an “incomprehensible decision”, and confirms that it will appeal.

Incomprehension, and it seems a little anger. Olympique Lyonnais was demoted this Tuesday in Ligue 2 by the financial gendarme of French football, the DNCG, despite the arguments presented by its president, the American John Textor.

A sanction to which the Rhone club, which will appeal this decision, reacted at the end of the evening by press release.

“We have more than sufficient resources for the 2025-2026 season”

“Olympique Lyonnais takes note of the incomprehensible decision rendered by the DNCG this evening and confirms that it will appeal immediately,” he wrote.

“In the past few months, we have worked closely with the DNCG, satisfying all of its requests with higher fund investments in the requested amounts,” said OL. “Thanks to the equity contributions of our shareholders and the sale of Crystal Palace, our cash has improved considerably and we have more than sufficient resources for the 2025-2026 season”.

And to add: “With demonstrated funds and a sporting success which earned us a place in European competition two years in a row, we sincerely understand how an administrative decision could relegate such a large French club. We will call to demonstrate our ability to provide the necessary resources in terms of cash to guarantee the maintenance of OL in L1.”
