Olympique Lyon sentenced to degradate sanctions from Ligue 1. The French club was sentenced to caught up in financial problems.
Relegation sanctions to Lyon were given the National Management Control Directorate (DNGC), the body that oversees the finances of the French professional football club in November 2024. Lyon officials, including John Textor As the club owner, trying to convince DNGC to revoke the sanctions on Tuesday (6/24/2025), but failed to produce results.

“We have made various investments in the last few weeks. Everything is fine financially,” said John Textor, as reported by The team.
This became the first degradation sanction experienced by Lyon throughout the club’s history. The owner of the seven French League titles will appear in the second caste for the first time since 1989.
The degradation penalty as experienced by Lyon was not the first time it had happened in the French League. BordeauxLigue 1 winners must submit their professional status and break down to the French fourth division last year because it was declared bankrupt.
