Ligue 1 TV Rights: Canal+ Ends LFP Talks

New twist in the negotiations around TV rights of Ligue 1. After the abandonment of the contract signed with Dazn, the Professional Football League wishes to launch its broadcast chain for the 2025-2026 season. A scenario in which Canal +, a historic but disinherited diffuser of Ligue 1 since 2020, could have been involved. But, this Friday evening, Maxime Saada, president of the encrypted channel, announces “a failed meeting”.

“We informed the League this Friday. It is a missed meeting, Canal + throws in the towel, he explains to the daily the team. We have chosen to give up. To date, we consider that the conditions are not met for Canal + to distribute the new platform of Ligue 1 ”. The main reason for disagreement? “The subscription price,” said the manager, evoking the amount of 20 euros per month “too high”.

Negotiations therefore fail before they even really started between Canal + and LFP Media, chaired by Nicolas de Tavernost, responsible for negotiating TV rights. The latter had announced an “important” meeting to come between Canal +, Bein Sports and LFP Media in the coming days.

“On Ligue 1 in France, on date, one can indeed wonder if Canal will be a partner. The conditions are not met today for any distribution, ”repeats Maxime Saada during his interview. “To date”, therefore. Could this still change in the coming weeks? In this file, you should no longer
