Samurai Japan University Team Kicks Off Training Camp Ahead of USA Series
HIRATSUKA, Japan – The road to the 45th Japan-US University Baseball Championship began today at Batting Palace Aishi Stadium, as the Samurai Japan University team commenced it’s selection camp. The five-game series, a showcase of collegiate talent, will be held across Hokkaido, Niigata, and Tokyo from July 8th to 13th.
head Coach Horii Tetsuya, entering his second year at the helm, wasted no time, initiating a Red and White scrimmage on the very first day. We know that free batting and knocking are at a high level every year, so we decided to make it a three-day game-oriented day, with the desire to see how much performance we will get in action,

The opening day featured two six-inning contests, highlighting the depth of Japanese pitching talent. Several hurlers on both sides consistently clocked pitches over 93 mph (150 km/h). Kudo Yasumi of Hokkai Gakuen University stood out, hitting 96 mph (155 km/h) on the radar gun. Despite initial nerves during his first national team training camp, Kudo delivered a strong performance in the second inning, allowing only one hit and racking up three strikeouts. There were so manny good batters that I couldn’t help but feel uneasy,
Kudo admitted, but he quickly found his rhythm.
Kudo, reflecting on past performances, added, I threw too many pitches [at the All Japan University Baseball Championship], which caused me to miss pitches and get worse, so today I only chose sliders and splits. I was also running straights.
With the first two games of the Japan-US series taking place at escon Field HOKKAIDO, his hometown stadium, Kudo expressed his eagerness to perform well.It’s a stadium I’ve never pitched yet, and I’m here now, thanks to the help of many people, so I’d like to pitch with a desire to repay him.
Akiyama Toshi (Chukyo University) also made his Red and White game debut, while Yamajo Kyohei (Asaa University), a highly touted draft prospect, launched a leadoff home run to right field.I’m glad that I was able to get the ball down with one pitch without losing to the straight set I was aiming for,

Yamajo, driven by a desire to play professionally, sees the national team as a crucial stepping stone. I have no experience in the national team before, so I would like to join the national team and compete with a high-level American national team in order to become a professional, and I think I will be closer to my goals, so I would like to show off my strengths.

I’ve always admired Samurai Japan since I was a child, and I’m finally in a position to challenge myself, so I’d like to show off my appeal tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
