German Players at US Open 2024: Preview & Contenders

The Yonex Us Open 2025 will take place in the American Council Bluffs from June 24th to 29th. A large German contingent is represented in all five disciplines. In the first round, top -class opponents are already waiting for the German athletes.

Men’s singles with Roth in qualification and Kicklitz in the main field

In the men’s singles, Fabian Roth first has to go through the qualification. His opponent, the Taiwaner Ting Yen-Chen, is currently number 107 in the world and was already in the final of the Denmark Challenge this year. Matthias Kicklitz begins right in the main field. There, however, an extremely difficult opponent is waiting in round 1: Kenta Nishimoto from Japan, the current number 12 in the world and one of the fellow favorites for the title.

Yvonne Li meets qualified

In the women’s singles, Yvonne Li starts against an opponent from the qualification that has not yet been established. In the second round there could be a duel with Danish Julie Dawall Jakobsen, who won bronze at the European Championships.

Double competition: three German men’s and women’s pairs

In the men’s double, Bjarne Geiss and Jones Ralfy Jansen compete against Lai Po Yu and Tasi Fu Cheng from Taiwan, who are currently in 88th place in the world rankings.
Malik Bourakkadi and Kenneth Neumann are dealing with the number 36 in the world set in position 3 Hariharan Amsakarunan and Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi. In the women’s double, Leona Michalski and Thuc Phuong Nguyen meet the local heroes Chloe Ho and Katelin Ngo from the USA.

German mixed want to build on recent successes

With three pairings, Germany is widely represented in mixed. Marvin Seidel and Thuc Phuong Nguyen traveled with a lot of confidence in Luxembourg and La Réunion. They play against the Spanish Duo Ruben Garcia and Lucia Rodriguez.

For Jan Colin Völker and Stine Küspert, it is the first tournament on international soil since Küsper’s return after a knee injury – previously they had won the Bonn International in Germany. The opponents, however, have it all: Grégoire Deschamp and Margot Lambert from France already won the Swedish Open and Portugal International Championships this year – and conquered Jan Colin Völker and Franziska Volkmann there in the semi -finals.

The German mixed field is completed by Malik Bourakkadi and Leona Michalski, who have to compete with the Americans Chen Zhi Yi and Francesca Corbett in position 8.
