The National Committee for Supervision and Financial Management of Clubs in France announced this evening, Tuesday, that the Olympic club Lyon will decline to the second division, after reviewing its financial file permanently, in a move that shook the French sports community.
The President of Lyon, John Takktar, and the club’s football manager, Michael Gleneger, had undergone a hearing in front of the committee in an attempt to avoid the decision to decline, but the committee decided to activate the punishment based on Article 11 of its regulations, while granting the club the right to appeal.
It is noteworthy that Lyon had been temporarily punished during the winter transfer period, because of his inability to provide the required financial guarantees, in light of huge debts of 175 million euros, which made his administrative and sports future at stake.
Despite John Takstar’s recent statements, in which he confirmed that the club is in a good financial situation after large investments, the committee saw otherwise, to decide that one of the largest French clubs to the second division for the first time in many years.
Olympic Lyon, founded in 1950, is considered one of the oldest French clubs where he won the French League seven times in a row (2002-2008), the French Cup 5 times, the French Champions Cup 8 times and the French League Cup once.
The club, representing Lyon, is famous for a distinguished academy for developing young talents, which directed international stars, most notably the legend of Real Madrid and crowned with the Golden Ball, Franco Algerian, Karim Bin Zima.
The national team currently includes several players from the same academy graduates, including Yassin Bin Zaya, Hossam Awar and Amin Ghweiri.
