Young, ambitious and with an attractive style of play. Francesco Farioli will be the new technician of FC Porto and sign a contract until June 2027.
The 36-year-old Italian fulfills all the requirements on the table by André Villas-Boas, who already had it as a preferential name when Vítor Bruno’s succession.
At that time, Farioli was linked to Ajax and unavailable to abandon the project, because he was in the dispute for the title of the Netherlands, which would eventually lose dramatically on the last matchday.
Now, with the free technician, the last details are right to consummate in early July, already in the formal start of the new season 2025/26, the departure of Martín Anselmi and the hiring of Farioli for two times.
Despite the differences, even game system, both coaches have profile similarities and correspond to an almost mandatory condition for Villas-Boas. The president of FC Porto has as its priority the hiring of young technicians, under 45 years, based on conquest, like so many other names that were successful in the dragons – including himself.
On and off the field: the split between ANSELMI and the structure
The bet is still at risk. Especially after the failure that was the last five months of Anselmi, which has a contract until 2027 and whose agreement for termination has not yet been official, as the Argentine was uncompromising in the first approach, requiring compensation immediately for all the contract.
Still, Anselmi’s fate is set. The coach prepares the return to his country and already has a scheduled trip.
The 39 -year -old Argentine disappointed the portist structure for football presented on the field, although he could not have the promised reinforcements for the system, but also for some aspects in daily work.
The results were below expected (less than 50 percent wins in 21 games), but even less encouraging were the exhibitions, with the team not to show growth signs in almost half a year, with a rare positive exception to be the way Rodrigo Mora emerged.
Off the field, daily work also showed a clear misalignment of perspectives.
The still technician of FC Porto had an approach considered relaxed in terms of control of some parameters of athletes at daily work and did not rigorously articulate with the structure considered relevant aspects, such as communication.
All added to FC Porto’s desolate installment at the Club World Cup, from which he left eliminated without any victory in an affordable group, as well as the growing contestation of fans, Anselmi is at the door.
Filf Farioli is followed by FC Porto’s future coach.
