What is an emerging sport?

The Roundnet, the Bádminton, the Kabaddi, among others are also recognized as emerging sports. Of these and other disciplines, expert speakers will be taken in the second International Seminar “Emerging games and sports applied in Physical Education class”July 1, 2 and 3 on the sports courts on the San Joaquín Campus, organized by the Pedagogy career in Physical Education and Health UC.

The importance of emerging sports in Physical Education
Soccer, athletics or gymnastics are traditional sports that people know since childhood, either because they see them on television, they know a friend or family that practices it or they themselves begin to train at an early age.
But these activities enhance the people who are more skilled, for this reason the teaching of emerging sports in physical education classes must be promoted, the expert stressed.
“In these games we often find diverse motor skills that it is not always so implicit in traditional sports. Balance, agility, resistance, strength, coordination are constantly present. And this diversity of activities allows inclusion” – Osvaldo Ibáñez, UC academic.

Emerging sports at UC
Together with the Seminar, the University has a series of instances to learn about emerging sports. An activity that was carried out recently was the Netball Clinic on the San Joaquín Campus organized by the Pedagogy Program in Physical Education and Health UC, where students of Physical Education of the Universities Usach and UMCE participated.

Netball is a sport that was born at the end of the 19th century as an adaptation of basketball for women, where control and cooperation are privileged over aggressiveness and physical contact.
It should be noted that the First Netball team in Chile was founded three years ago by students of Pedagogy in Physical Education and Health UC, together with Professor Ibáñez.
