Barbecue Brush Accident: Henrik’s Urgent Surgery

Henrik was already operated the same day he entered the emergency room

Henrik Kugelberg, 56, lived on ribs for two days.

Then he had to operate urgently – due to a barbecue brush.

“It’s so disturbed the whole thing,” he says.

It was during the National Day weekend that Henrik Kugelberg went out to a cabin outside Örebro, that he had borrowed from a friend, to relax. When he arrived, he cleaned the grill with a barbecue brush and then began to grill ribs.

– I lived on it up in the woods, I sat mostly and counted and cooked off the meat.

When the weekend was over, he went home. A few weeks later he had a planned doctor’s visit. Then the samples showed high inflammation values. But neither Henrik nor the doctor could find any explanation and he didn’t think about it anymore.

– Three days ago I started to get really stomach ache so I went to the emergency room. On X -ray you could see a needle -shaped thing. First all doctors talked about fish bones and then they switched to toothpicks, he says and continues:

– I thought everything sounded really strange. It is not that you chew in either fish bone or toothpicks without noticing it.

The first day in the cottage he grilled a large load of ribs.

“Everyone has wondered how seventeen it might happen”

Already the same evening he was sent on surgery. Then the doctor pulled out a metal wire bite and Henrik realized that it must have come from the barbecue brush.

– So it must first have stuck a piece of steel from it on the grill. Then it is stuck on the meat and then I chewed it in and it stuck in my stomach.

The brush from the barbecue brush had been stuck on the small intestine and it could have gone bad. After the operation, Henrik was allowed to remain in the hospital with a drip.

– Every person who had been with me at the hospital has wondered how seventeen it could happen and has wanted to hear the story.

Now he has had to come home again and is in good courage.

Henrik has been allowed to come home from the hospital after the operation

– It’s just good with me. I have a little stomach ache because I tanned a lot. You should not do that when you have just operated your stomach.

Ending with grilled is no alternative. However, there will be no more barbecue brush in the future.

– There are stones with grooves you can use instead. The risk is that you get stone in yourself instead, but it must be better.
