The Achilles tendon injury season at the end of the play-off tournament was three NBA stars-Jason Teitum (Boston “Celtics”), Demien Lillard (Milwaukee “Bucks”), Tairis Haliberton (Indian “Pacers”).
Prior to that, there were four more players in the regular championship: James Vaizman and Aizaya Jackson (both Indiana “Pacers”), Dezonte Marey (New Orleans “Pelicans”) and Dream Smith (Miami “Heat”).
“We set up an expert panel before Achille’s tendon was broken by Tairis,” Silvers told ESPN at the NBA draft ceremony, pointing to the injury to the Haliberton’s final seventh game.
“We had seven such injuries this season. Last season, no, although the circumstances were the same. So far, the biggest number of such injuries in one season was four,” the NBA commissioner said.
Silvers, however, rejected the hypothesis that the NBA season could be too long and that there would be a need to reduce the number of games. “Looking back at the last 10 years, most injuries were caused (in the first part of the season) before the” All -Star Game “break.”
The NBA Commissioner expressed the hope that artificial intelligence would help to collect data and explain why this season had so much injury to the Achilles tendon, which may lead to players having to rehabilitate for years.
“With the help of artificial intelligence, you can collect a video from each game where the injured player has played – to see if there is a nuance we did not know that it leads to the Achilles tendon injury. We perceive it very seriously,” said Silvers.
