Rood-Wit,a korfball club based in Wezep,is teaming up with Oranje-Zwart of Zwolle to champion inclusive sports.
The partnership aims to create competitions and tournaments for individuals with mental and physical disabilities
throughout the Overijssel province. This initiative mirrors similar efforts by the badminton association in Raalte. We think it is important that attention and space comes for this target group, says Jorrit Ramaker, board member
of Rood-Wit, highlighting the club’s commitment.

Spearheaded by Sportservice Zwolle, the collaboration, dubbed “sports fighters,” seeks to elevate adapted sports. The province of Overijssel is providing crucial subsidy support. The official launch took place on May 3rd in Raalte
with the inaugural sports fighters badminton tournament. This mirrors the Special Olympics movement here in the U.S.,
which has shown how sports can empower individuals with disabilities.

We as Red-Wit were approached in January by thinking and helping or help with implementing this initiative. Our motto
within the association is ‘korfball for everyone’. in the spring of 2023 our G-team was founded. We currently have
seven members, of which four to five come to play,
explains a representative from Rood-Wit.This mirrors the
growth of adaptive sports programs in the U.S., such as wheelchair basketball and sled hockey, which have seen increased
participation and recognition.

By joining forces, rood-Wit aims to reach more individuals in Wezep and oldebroek. The “korfball fighters” initiative,
inspired by Zwolle’s efforts, plans to host more frequent regional competitions and tournaments.Collaborations with
ASVD from Dronten, Juventa from Hardenberg, and Oranje-Zwart from Zwolle are already underway. Several events are
scheduled for this year. This collaborative approach is similar to how various organizations in the U.S.work together
to promote adaptive sports, such as the U.S. Paralympics and local community centers.

Jorrit Ramaker notes,Next month we will participate in a tournament in Zwolle and Saturday 20 december we will have
a G-Korfball tournament in the Erica terpstrahal on Rondweg 1 in Wezep. In the future, more korfball clubs will hook
up at ‘Korfball fighters’, so that a competitive shape of the Kunaplunam is also created.
This vision aligns with
the growing emphasis on creating competitive opportunities for athletes with disabilities, as seen in the increasing
number of adaptive sports leagues and tournaments in the U.S.

Looking ahead, the initiative aims to expand its reach beyond Overijssel. We hope to expand it next year with more
clubs from the province of Gelderland. We will also look for sponsors. Although there is a subsidy, it is in the
first instance for one year. The best would be a foundation with its own identity, where we can hold our own
tournaments,
a spokesperson stated. This mirrors the challenges faced by many adaptive sports programs in the
U.S.,which frequently enough rely on grants, donations, and sponsorships to sustain their operations.

G-Korfball training sessions in Wezep are held every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. For more details,

opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in sports, similar to the efforts of local adaptive
sports organizations across the U.S.

Teh impact of this partnership extends beyond the playing field.
