Paris Rugby Club: Lesbophobia Investigation Launched

Paris is now the center of a developing controversy as an investigation has been launched following a complaint filed by a leader within the women’s section of the Stade Français rugby club. The complaint alleges harassment and homophobic behavior against the club’s sports director, according to the prosecution.

The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed receipt of the complaint on January 14th, detailing accusations of moral harassment and homophobic remarks allegedly made by the Stade Français management. The case has been assigned to the delinquency repression brigade for investigation. This news follows earlier reports from Mediapart detailing these accusations.

The FFR has confirmed receiving the report through its dedicated platform and has stated that the disciplinary council of French rugby is now involved.

An internal investigation was conducted by Stade Français, resulting in a reprimand for the manager in early January.However, according to Mediapart, allegations of homophobic and sexist language, and also harassment, were not “selected” against the sports director during this internal review. This raises questions about the thoroughness and impartiality of the club’s internal investigation,similar to controversies surrounding internal investigations in U.S. college sports programs.

The Pink Rockets, the stade français women’s team, issued a press release on Thursday, May 22nd, calling for the sports director’s resignation. They stated that his words “participate in a system of domination and exclusion” and criticized the “inaction and attempted concealment” by the association’s office, which manages the club’s non-professional structure. This public statement highlights the growing pressure on the club to take decisive action.

The association’s office claimed to send “without restraint all our support for the victim of these facts.”

While suspended from his duties with the women’s team since the beginning of january, following the internal investigation, the sports director has reportedly retained his other responsibilities within the association. This decision has drawn criticism, with many questioning why the individual remains in a position of authority while facing such serious allegations.
