Follonica Set to Field Second Club, Follonica Senzuno, Igniting Local Soccer Scene

Follonica, Italy, is about to experience a soccer boom. Starting in the 2025-2026 season, the city will boast a second football club, Follonica Senzuno, joining Gavorrano Follonica (Excellence) in representing the gulf city. The newly formed club will begin its journey in the Terza Categoria (Third Category), marking a fresh chapter for amateur football in the region.

Lorenzo Dell’Anna, general manager of Follonica Senzuno, officially announced the club’s registration, signaling a significant moment for the association. After more than forty years of sporting activity, we are proud to take this ancient step for our society, Dell’Anna stated. Follonica Senzuno, active since 1982, has always represented a lively and rooted reality in the city sports fabric. Today, with great enthusiasm, we want to offer Follonica an choice dedicated to the many boys in the area who practice football in the provincial categories.

This development echoes the growth of soccer at the grassroots level seen across the United States, where youth soccer participation has surged, creating a demand for more local clubs and competitive opportunities. Similar to how a city like Portland, oregon, supports both the Portland Timbers (MLS) and numerous amateur leagues, Follonica is expanding its soccer footprint.

The pride in this new venture is shared by President Mario Palilla and other key figures within the club, including Alessandro Chelini, Fernando Bolognesi, and Nicola Papi.

I want to underline that our president Mario palilla represents an authentic symbol of Follonichese football, Dell’Anna emphasized. Since 1960 he has dressed the shirt of the city team, where he has carried out the whole youth journey, he played in the first team for 13 years and, afterward, has also held the role of coach for many years. His personal history is deeply intertwined with that of local football,and his presence is a reason for us. Palilla’s extensive involvement mirrors the dedication of figures like Landon Donovan in the U.S., whose playing career and subsequent involvement in soccer development have significantly impacted the sport’s growth.

President Mario Palilla reaffirmed the club’s commitment to the local community. Our goal is to focus on the identity and involvement of the local community, Palilla stated. The company is already working to set up a competitive team, enhancing local talents and involving footballers, managers and fans of Follonica. For this we are building a project that puts the Follonics in the center, inside and outside the field. We also plan new collaborations, events and initiatives.
