The story began in 2008 when Diego nadal, the twins’ father, embarked on a journey to Mallorca, spain, to investigate a potential family link. We started finding out becuase my dad had an amazing physical resemblance to Rafa and his origins were also in Manacor, Diego explained. his research led him to Nadal’s grandfather and a finding in the Manacor cathedral: a distant kinship dating back generations.

According to Diego, Mallorcan tradition dictates that the firstborn son be named after the paternal grandfather, and the second after the maternal grandfather. This tradition explains why the tennis superstar shares a name with his grandfather. The spanish custom of using double last names further differentiates individuals with common names.

Diego’s investigation even led him to Miguel Ángel nadal, Rafa’s uncle, a former professional soccer player who represented Spain in the 2002 World Cup. He also met Rafael Nadal‘s father, which led to a meeting between Diego and the tennis star in Paris. I remember that at that time Rodrigo Palacio played in Boca and took that gift shirt, Diego recalled.

At the two months that we returned from that trip,Natalia,my wife,was pregnant with twins… In 2009 my children were born and put Rafael and Antonio, because if they were male the names I chosen them, and if they were women she chose it, Diego revealed.

While they initially played for fun, their dedication intensified over time.After training at San Lorenzo and the eduardo Schwank Academy, they committed to pursuing professional careers. They currently train with César Ayala, father of Lourdes Ayala, a rising star in Argentine women’s tennis.

Balancing academics and athletics, the twins attend Eesse 1548 school in Ricardone while dedicating their afternoons to rigorous training. Rafael favors his forehand, while Antonio excels with his backhand.
