From Czechia to Causeway Street: Goalie Simon Zajíček Lands Bruins Deal, Eyes NHL Spot

Three years ago, Simon Zajíček was honing his skills in the Czech lower leagues. Now, he’s inked an entry-level contract wiht the Boston Bruins, setting his sights on cracking the NHL roster. I’ll do everything I can to succeed, Zajíček declared, signaling his determination to make an impact in Boston. In this exclusive interview, we delve into the pivotal moments of his burgeoning career and his expectations for the challenges ahead in North America.

“Signing an NHL contract” – a story you’ll be telling the grandkids, right?

Absolutely! An NHL deal is a dream come true. it’s not something that happens to everyone, and honestly, I’m still processing it. I’m incredibly happy and grateful for the opportunity.

Were there other teams in the mix besides Boston?

Yes, there was interest from other organizations. However, boston presented a clear vision for my development that resonated with my team and me. Once that vision was laid out,we focused solely on Boston.

“Boston presented a clear vision for my development that resonated with my team and me.”

Your rise is even more remarkable considering you were playing in Třebíč and Frýdek-Místek just three years ago…

Exactly. Back then, signing an NHL contract seemed like a distant dream. I started getting more playing time in Litvínov, then earned opportunities with the national team, and now this contract with Boston. I’m resolute to make the most of this chance.

Can you pinpoint a specific moment that jumpstarted your career?

It’s not one single moment, but the beginning of my collaboration with Zdeněk orct was crucial. We worked extensively on various aspects of my game. Zdeněk is a tremendous expert.

“The beginning of my collaboration with Zdeněk Orct was crucial.”

What areas did you focus on the most?

Primarily my mental approach. I used to dwell on every goal I allowed, but as Mr. Orct says,Goals are part of hockey. He also stays current with goaltending trends and can relate to the challenges goalies face as he played the position himself.

Do you think coaches without playing experience are at a disadvantage?

I wouldn’t want to generalize, but having personal experience is definitely a critically important advantage. For example, if a goalie lets in a soft goal, a coach who has been in that same situation can better understand what the goalie is going through and how to respond. I’m confident of that.

“I used to dwell on every goal I allowed.”

back to signing with Boston, congratulations! You must have received a lot of well wishes, right?

Yes, I have. It’s been overwhelming in the best way possible.

Simon Zajíček Eyes NHL Dream: “I Want to Show Off From the Beginning”

For Czech goaltender Simon Zajíček, the dream of playing in the NHL is rapidly becoming a reality. As he prepares to cross the Atlantic, Zajíček is focused, determined, and ready to face the challenges ahead. While the specific team remains undisclosed, his sights are set on making an immediate impact.

“they are pleasant worries,” Zajíček said, acknowledging the anticipation and pressure that come with pursuing his NHL aspirations.

Learning from a Legend

Zajíček has been leaning on the experience of fellow Czech hockey players, including one prominent figure. “Yes, we are in contact with Pavel for a long time. Every time I needed advice, he was available to me and dealt with specific matters with me. Now we will have other topics to discuss,” he shared with a smile, hinting at the ongoing mentorship.

The Stanley Cup Dream

Like any aspiring NHL player,Zajíček harbors the ultimate goal: winning the Stanley Cup. “There’s no doubt whatsoever! Win Stanley Cup is a dream. But I’m a realist, I have to get to the NHL first.” This grounded perspective underscores his understanding of the hard work and dedication required to reach the pinnacle of professional hockey.

Facing Stiff Competition

The path to the NHL is rarely easy, and Zajíček is well aware of the competition he’ll face. He specifically mentioned the goaltending depth of the Boston Bruins as an example: “Great goalies. It is indeed clear to me that I do not have a name overseas yet. It won’t be easy, I think I have the hardest level so far. Even the matches in the national team I caught, I think they were not as tough as what is in front of me now. Anyway, I will do everything possible to prove that I have on the NHL.”

The Bruins, for instance, boast established netminders like Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo. This level of competition motivates zajíček to elevate his game and prove his worth.

Newcomer Camp: An Opportunity to Shine

Zajíček is eager to make a strong first impression at the upcoming newcomer camp.”I do not know yet, I have not yet received information when I should come to it. But I will definitely want to show off from the beginning.” He understands the importance of showcasing his skills and demonstrating his potential to the coaching staff and management.

I will want to show off from the beginning.

Adapting to the North American Game

The North American style of hockey differs from what Zajíček is accustomed to in Europe, but he’s confident in his ability to adapt. “So far I’m just strengthening and I’m not on the ice,so we’ll see. Anyway, I’m used to a small skating rink from Litvínov, so this should not be a problem.” His experience playing on smaller rinks in the czech Republic should ease the transition.

Embracing a New Life

Moving to North America represents a significant life change for Zajíček, but he’s embracing the opportunity. “Yeah, America is big enough. Litvínov cannot be compared. (smiles) But I’m looking forward to this stage of life.” He acknowledges the cultural differences and the challenges of living in a new country, but his enthusiasm is palpable.

Missing home,But Focused on the Future

While Zajíček will miss his family and friends,he’s accustomed to being autonomous. “I am used to being without a family because I was alone in Litvínov all the time. But yeah, of course it will be. Especially initially.” This self-reliance will serve him well as he navigates the challenges of living and playing in a new habitat.

Language No barrier

Interaction is crucial for any athlete, and Zajíček is confident in his english skills. “Fortunately, it is indeed not quite needed, it never made me a problem. I can agree.” This will allow him to effectively communicate with his teammates, coaches, and others within the institution.

Supporting His Countrymen

Even as he prepares for his own NHL journey, Zajíček is keeping a close eye on the IIHF World Championship.”Sure, I keep my fingers crossed for the boys. Hopefully we will go far.” He’s rooting for his fellow Czech players and hoping for a accomplished tournament.

english doesn’t make me a problem.

A Goalie to Watch

When asked about standout goaltenders at the World Championship, Zajíček highlighted a familiar face. “I’m not that I choose someone specifically, but I watch Lukáš Horák a lot. We are friends and I like his way. He caught Slovenia rescue in an elite group, so great work.” He admires Horák’s performance and is proud of his accomplishments.

he added, “Not yet, I didn’t want to annoy when he was in the tournament, but certainly congratulations occur. (smiles)” showing his respect for Horak’s focus during the competition.

Simon Zajíček’s journey to the NHL is just beginning, but his determination, skill, and positive attitude suggest a luminous future. Archysports.com will continue to follow his progress as he chases his Stanley Cup dream.
