MMA Stars Trade Gloves for Gloves: Buchinger vs. Deák and Mikulášek’s Boxing Blunder
MMA ace Ivan Buchinger Falls to Tomáš Deák in Boxing Ring Upset
In a crossover clash that had MMA fans buzzing, Slovakian MMA legend ivan Buchinger faced off against Tomáš Deák in a boxing match at Fight Night Challenge 9 in Prague’s O2 Universum. While Buchinger entered as the favorite, deák, with a few amateur boxing wins under his belt, proved to be the spoiler, securing a points victory.
Despite both fighters being known for their grappling prowess in MMA, the bout showcased a surprising level of boxing skill. The main difference between boxing and MMA is that a boxer uses onyl their fists…to attack. A mixed martial artist, though, can use their fists, elbows, knees, and feet to throw attacks and grapple
[[2]]. This limitation seemingly favored Deák, who was able to capitalize on his boxing experience.
Buchinger, making his boxing debut, started slow, allowing Deák to close the distance and unleash rapid combinations. While Buchinger found his rhythm in the second round, a head collision in the third resulted in a cut over his left eye. Ultimately, the judges awarded Deák the victory, 2-1.
buchinger Reflects: “Boxing Won’t Be My Thing”
Despite the loss,Buchinger remained optimistic. I won’t be a boxer, but I certainly wont some boxing match. Tomasko went very well. I pushed him, dodged well,
he said after the fight.
Buchinger’s MMA credentials are undeniable. A former champion in Cage Warriors and M-1, he also held titles in two different weight classes in Octagon. He even shared the cage with Conor McGregor early in McGregor’s career, a testament to Buchinger’s long-standing presence in the sport.
Deák, also a former champion in World nights Global and Octagon, has competed in the prestigious Russian promotion ACA. His victory over Buchinger marks a significant achievement in his combat sports journey.
“Baba Jaga” Mikulášek’s Boxing Debut a Disaster
The same night wasn’t as kind to another MMA fighter. Václav “Baba Jaga” mikulášek, a controversial figure in Czech combat sports, suffered a humiliating defeat against amateur boxer Patrik Lakatoš. Mikulášek’s performance was marred by antics, including attempting a guillotine choke – a technique legal in MMA but strictly prohibited in boxing. Boxing allows only punches and presents the pinnacle in the skill of fist fighting. MMA, on the other hand, is much closer to a real fight and encompasses all aspects of unarmed fighting, including striking with all limbs and grappling
[[3]].
The judges unanimously scored the fight 3-0 in favor of Lakatoš.
Mikulášek: “Taktiker Defeated Me”
What should I say? Patrik was better. I lost, I take it like a guy,
Mikulášek conceded, though his performance drew boos from the crowd. Taktiker defeated me, be happy,
he retorted.
Mikulášek’s career has been on a downward spiral, with seven losses in his last nine fights. After being released from Oktagon, he now competes in RFA and Clashi, the latter known for its celebrity matches.
