Bengaluru Badminton Coach Arrested: Teen Rape Case

Bengaluru: A badminton coach was arrested by POLICE POLICE Thursday for raping a 16-year-old south Bengaluru girl on multiple occasions.
The offence came to light recently when the girl sent a nude photo of herself to the coach, 30, via WhatsApp from her grandmother’s phone.
The girl had enrolled at a sports centre two years ago and the accused was her coach. Citing preliminary investigation, police said the girl had appeared for her 10th standard exam and is awaiting the results.
Her parents had sent her to her grandmother’s home for the vacation. After the grandmother found the girl’s nudes sent to an unsaved number from her phone, she alerted the minor’s parents.
When enquired by her homemaker mother, the girl spoke about sexual abuse by the coach on multiple occasions.
When the girl was receiving badminton training, the coach started meeting her privately. The coach from Tamil Nadu stays alone in the city. He would take the girl to his accommodation and sexually abuse her, police said.
The girl told a police officer that she was taken to the coach’s house close to 25 times. The girl would skip dance classes and tuitions to visit his house and he would rape her. Her parents approached police who reached out to the coach and arrested him.
During interrogation, he confessed that he had had sex with the girl many times. He also clicked a few nude photos of the girl on his phone. “When we checked his phone, we found nude photos and videos of seven to eight other girls, all aged 13-16 years, who took training at the same sports centre. He appears to be a habitual offender who has been targeting minor girls. He has been taken into police custody for eight days. Since the girl’s clothes were washed every time after she met him, we have to investigate the case thoroughly and collect other evidence,” a senior police officer said.
