JaVale McGee Shines in BSN Debut,Gallinari Joins the Party

Former NBA standout JaVale McGee made a splash in his National Superior Basketball (BSN) debut,leading the bayamón Cowboys to a decisive 86-71 victory over the Mayagüez Indians. The game marked the beginning of a new era for the Cowboys under the leadership of Eric Duars and Carlos Arroyo.

McGee, a three-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers, electrified the crowd at the Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum. His performance was a statement, proving his ability to dominate on any court.

The Olympic medalist showcased his skills, racking up an impressive 31 points and grabbing six rebounds. His presence was a game-changer for Bayamón.

Adding to Bayamón’s firepower was veteran Christian Dalmau, who faced off against the team where his BSN career began in 2022. Dalmau’s leadership and experience were crucial in securing the win.

After the game, Dalmau emphasized the importance of home-court advantage: We have been practicing hard for three weeks. The boys have worked very well. Mojica’s three-pointer extended Bayamón’s lead to double digits, 62-51, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

McGee finished the third quarter with 25 points, giving Bayamón a comfortable 66-52 lead.

Bayamón maintained their double-digit lead for the remainder of the game, securing the victory.

For the Indians, Tyrell Harrison led the way with 18 points, followed by Waardenburg with 16. The Indians are now 1-1 under coach Iván “Pipo” Vélez.

The Cowboys’ season opener also featured a performance by urban artist Farruko, a native of Bayamón.

This was the only BSN game played on Thursday.
