More than 170 athletes from 18 countries and six autonomous communities converge on this historic site, ready to compete in the prestigious Andalusian Olympic Week, Carnival Trophy. Celebrating its twentieth anniversary, this four-day regatta, running until March 2, promises to be a thrilling display of skill and sportsmanship.

The regatta is not just a local event but a global stage where athletes from diverse backgrounds come together. Eight countries will compete in the IQFOIL classes, including Spain, Austria, Brazil, Finland, India, Portugal, Turkey, and Ukraine. Among the Spanish competitors, the spotlight shines on the latest national Olympic representatives from the balearic Islands. The competition is fierce, with 19 spaniards vying for the national title across both Senior and Sub 23 categories.
MenS IQFOIL: A Battle of Titans
In the men’s IQFOIL category, the competition is intense. Spanish athletes like Fernando Martínez del Cerro, Fernando Lamadrid, and Aurelio Terry are strong contenders for the national title. They face formidable opponents such as the catalan Guillem Segu and the Valencian windsurfer Jorge Aranzueque. Meanwhile,Baltasar aims for the Sub 23 title,challenging his territorial partner Bernat Tomas and fellow Andalusians Ángel Medina and Alejandro Arauz.The international presence is notable, with two foreign athletes coached by Andalusians: Austrian Theo Peter, guided by Borja Carracedo, and American Noah Lyons, under the mentorship of Juan Manuel Moreno.

This prestigious regatta,organized by the Specialized Sports Technification Center of Cádiz Bay and the Andalusian Federation of Vela,promises a thrilling display of sailing prowess. With the backing of the Junta de Andalucía, the Provincial Council of Cádiz, the City of El Puerto de Santa María, and Puerto Sherry, the event is poised to be a highlight of the sailing calendar.

The ILCA 4 class,with 55 registered sailors,stands out as the most numerous,with Andalusian sailors leading the charge. The competition is fierce, with Canadians and Moroccans also vying for the absolute title.

The youth of the IQFOIL Olympic class are not to be underestimated. This group,including standout performers like Alejandro Selma (CN puerto Sherry) and Blanca Sahuquillo (CN Sevilla),will use the Olympic week as crucial training for the upcoming IQFOIL Games in the Bay of Cádiz.Competitors from Argentina,the Netherlands,and Portugal add to the international flavor of the fleet.

The Race Begins
