Castres Badminton Club Soars to New Heights: Inside their Historic Season

the Castres Badminton club is experiencing an unprecedented surge in popularity, boasting a record 210 members. What’s driving this remarkable growth? Club President Jérémy Bardou sheds light on the factors behind their success, just as the club gears up for its annual fundraising lotto this Friday.

The question on everyone’s mind is: how far can the Castres Badminton Club climb? Under the leadership of Jérémy Bardou, the club has witnessed explosive growth. After already reaching a ample 200 members two years ago, the roster swelled to 210 this January. Bardou attributes this surge, in part, to the increased visibility of badminton, especially wiht the Olympic Games spotlighting the sport. There are a lot of people who still think it’s a beach sport. And at the first session, they quickly realize that it’s not like playing at home. It’s very cardio, physical, intense, and technical. This misconception is similar to how many Americans initially viewed soccer,only to discover its demanding athleticism and strategic depth.

More Court Time, More Opportunities

The season is in full swing, fueled by the addition of new slots for the Bad school, leisure players, and competitive athletes. We have sharply increased our number of slots by renting a private gymnasium. The town hall, despite all its efforts, cannot meet all of our needs. I know that we are not the only ones in this case… Bardou acknowledges. This situation mirrors the challenges faced by many youth sports organizations in the U.S.,where securing adequate field or court time is a constant struggle. The club’s proactive approach to securing additional space is a testament to their commitment to growth.

Badminton enthusiasts will soon be able to experience top-tier play on the new Taraflex flooring at the Travet gymnasium,the same surface used during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. I thank Laurent Picouza,Jérôme Bonnet,Christian Crespy,and the entire sports service for listening to us. This upgrade is akin to a minor league baseball team upgrading to a major league-quality field, considerably enhancing the playing experience.

consequently, the number of courts has increased from five to seven, with regional approval, raising hopes that the CBC will host the departmental championship next year. On the competitive front, matches continue for both regional teams (R1 and R2) and the two departmental teams (D1 and D3). Notably, Christophe Moisty participated in the veteran European championship in the summer of 2024, and Nathan Gunzle finished first on the Tarn young circuit. These achievements are comparable to a U.S.college athlete competing at the national level, showcasing the club’s commitment to developing talent.

Seeking a Coach, Building for the Future

The club’s next objective is to hire a coach, made possible by the financial contributions of new sponsors. The call for sponsors is officially launched. For the Bad school and its 60 children,we made the decision to train two people by the Federation. This investment in coaching development is similar to the NFL’s investment in youth football programs, aiming to cultivate the next generation of players.

Until then, the club is hosting its annual lotto this Friday evening in the Gérard Philippe room (doors open at 7 p.m., games start at 8:30 p.m.). This event is always a hit, much like the unique “Blackminton” evening organized in February, featuring friendly matches in the dark illuminated by fluorescent markers. And as Jérémy Bardou concludes, We are not just a competitive club; we have a leisure part where we can have fun and relax with friends. This emphasis on community and enjoyment is a key ingredient in the club’s recipe for success, fostering a welcoming habitat for players of all skill levels.
