Czech Ski Racer Tereza Nova Returns Home After Traumatic Injury
A Triumphant return Home
Tereza Nova, the 27-year-old Czech ski racer, is returning home after a harrowing ordeal in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. A month after a devastating training accident, she’s now in a stable condition, having been roused from a medically induced coma. This marks a significant step in her recovery journey.
A Swift Response and Hopeful Outlook
Nova’s journey began with a violent fall during downhill training on the Kandahar slopes. The accident, occurring late January, prompted immediate action. A helicopter airlifted her too the Murnau accident clinic, where she underwent emergency surgery for severe traumatic brain trauma, carotid artery damage, and a fractured eye socket. Doctors placed her in an induced coma.
A Long Road to Recovery
After two weeks, medical professionals began reducing medication, gradually bringing Nova back to consciousness. Her partner, and Czech national coach, Ondrej Berndt, expressed profound gratitude for the swift response and support from the clinic staff and well-wishers.”it was very lucky that everyone reacted so quickly,” he stated. “We still have a long way ahead of us, but I am convinced that we will make it.” He and Nova’s family were by her side throughout her hospital stay.
Next Steps and Rehabilitation
Nova is now being transferred to a Czech hospital for further evaluation and specialized care. A lengthy rehabilitation period is anticipated. The 2022 Olympic participant faces a challenging road ahead, but her resilience and the support system around her offer a beacon of hope.
