Ferry: Well,my tennis background was definitely the catalyst. I’d always enjoyed the competitive aspect, adn the camaraderie of the sport. But tennis is a demanding game. My shoulder was beginning to give me trouble. Then I discovered the unique blend of agility and strategy combined with the social joy of being with fellow competitors! Padel immediately grabbed my attention.
Host: So you transitioned from tennis. What specifically drew you to padel?
Ferry: The rallies are just phenomenal. The ball bouncing off the walls keeps the action vibrant, even for players with varying skill levels.That constant excitement, mixed with the tactical elements, is unparalleled! And I have to say, the competitive spirit really fuels things. You’re always ready to keep it going.
Host: You mention camaraderie. How does that translate into the padel community in Rucphen?
Ferry: We see this in the local padel community every day. We’re superb rivals on the court, but also close friends and companions off it. The atmosphere is always positive and encouraging.
Host: Let’s touch on the practical aspects. your involvement as a committee member showcases a commitment to padel. What are some of your key focuses within the local club?
Ferry: Within the club, one of our core focuses is providing structured opportunities for players of all levels. We’ve developed a Summer Challenge subscription, which has been incredibly helpful. It allows our members to play both during peak times and off-peak hours for three months. This initiative addresses the problem of intermittent play during summer. There’s always the prospect to keep improving, regardless of whether it’s a peak time or not.
Host: You’ve mentioned the benefit of expert coaching. How does this support the sport’s growth in Rucphen?
Ferry: Absolutely. We’ve attracted three experienced coaches, which is great. The demand for lessons is huge, especially with newcomers to padel.This shows how the community is embracing it. That guidance is essential, not only for new players, but to enhance the skills of the intermediate and well-versed players in the club.
Host: You mentioned organizing tournaments. Can you explain how thes contribute to the overall padel experience in Rucphen?
Ferry: I organize external tournaments for all players in the club. My role in the committee is vital in connecting to other players who are interested in this sport. I’m also involved in the Youth committee, overseeing the Mini Maxi tournament.This ensures the sport continues to attract new players of all ages. It’s critically important that everyone can enjoy padel,regardless of background,experience or age.

Ferry: One potential challenge is maintaining appropriate play levels for all. The club ensures that players with varying skill levels and experience can enjoy the game simultaneously. This is a factor to keep in mind while the club is growing. but with experienced coaching and structured programs like the summer Challenge, we’re proactively addressing this issue.

Ferry: I see padel’s popularity continuing to surge. It’s a sport that caters to a wide range of ages and skill levels. Plus, its inclusive nature makes perfect sense.It’s a great sport, and as such, the global interest will continue to grow and grow!.
