The Absence of Munich
While Munich hosted NFL games in 2022 and 2024, the 2025 schedule features berlin as the sole German venue. The NFL’s strategic decision to expand its international presence to new markets and fan bases is a key factor in this choice.
Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, with its capacity of approximately 74,000, offers a significant advantage over Munich’s Allianz Arena (approximately 70,000). This larger capacity is a key factor in the league’s decision-making process.
Munich’s Potential Return
Despite the 2025 choice, Munich remains a strong contender for future NFL games. The city has officially applied for NFL games between 2026 and 2029. The city’s economic success, estimated at €70 million in added value by Berlin’s sports senator Iris Spranger, is a significant factor in their renewed request.
The NFL’s continued success in Germany, and the high demand for games, will likely play a crucial role in determining whether Munich will return to the international schedule.
